Melancholy, clean, and made for international lounges. The team behind Sanu Ek Pal Chain (simple remix) wanted to bring something new to the world through their album “World Market Special”; a remix of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan that was unlike any other ever made.
Nik (formerly One Signata Nach), the artist and co-producer on the track, states: “Nusrat is an icon of the world and will never lose his mark on it. Instead of just adding rhythm and instruments to his song in this remix, we wanted to create an entire new song based around Nusrat’s hook; this is a reflection of a personal connection with his music, and a symbol of his immortality.”
Sanu Ek Pal Chain (simple remix) is based on staying true to the theme of simple, unshakable love, while balancing a universe of opposing qualities: a Punjabi qawwali track sung with perfect clarity against a raw English rock track muddled in its own emotional chaos; a native Pakistani instrumentation of yesteryear with a futuristic dubstep rhythm of the Global dancefloor; deep, dubbed and infinitely echoed vocals versus crisp, coordinated percussion.
The song builds momentum through its fashionable use of techno and dubstep, while the stripped-down bass is meant to be used as a basis for mixing and matching at the fingertips of DJs worldwide.
On behalf of himself and co-producer Sureet Sandhu of Digital Desi Productions, Nik states: “This is a symbol of what’s to come – our World Market Special series will include more producers and more artists with each new release – and we will change the world of music by pushing an entirely new sound. Our make-or-break comes down to whether RJs, DJs and press are willing to push something that will challenge the status quo and shake things up a bit. We’re hopeful and believe in their power to stretch the definition of Asian Music in UK and worldwide.”
