Song: Adapt
Artist: Ko The Timeless
Review:
It’s nice to hear a breakout track – something that displays
a particular artist as the owner of a new flavor of sound. Ko The Timeless has
done that and more with his track, “Adapt”.
The name is so appropriate: as this song unfolds, we hear
instruments, music genres, hip hop past and hip hop future all adapt to one
another. We hear disparate sounds that rarely combine being effortlessly woven
into one tapestry with a ton of soul, and some real gritty attitude.
Highlights:
(1)
It’s different – the background is not your
typical Bohemia cali-banger, but rather more along the lines of Bohemia’sperformances on Pakistani Coke Studio:
raw, open, airy
(2)
My boy Sureet Sandhu is on the tabla in this
track, rippin out rhythms reflective of “Wesside” by Midnite and Lion Tribe
– love it!
(3)
The hook is damn catchy, and has an anthemic “we
will rock you” vibe to it that gets beautifully stuck in your head
(4)
The song has a great level of climax to it – akin
to some of my favorite recent tracks, “Mercy”
and “People in Paris” – the song breaks its monotony to build a higher-level experience, something
really missing from the desi hip hop genre
(5)
My opinion: Ko has a Pusha T flavor to his
vocals – real strong – with enjoyable, clever, relevant lyrics
(6)
Favorite part: Ko’s ode to Kanye at the end – even
though it went on forever-ever-forever-ever – it coulda even gone longer and it
would’ve been all good!
